Book Cello

String players for a party – a live cello or a cello duo?

Many people find themselves in a difficult situation when they decide to book a cello for a party. Should they book a single musician, or should they choose a cello duet, trio or quartet instead. The final choice depends on a number of factors.

At Limunt, we believe that a cello – as one of the few classical instruments suitable for parties – can serve as a solo instrument at parties, provided the event and venue allow for it. Your event should therefore be suited to an intimate, engaging and small-scale performance. So why does a cello work well as a solo instrument? A few facts about the cello can back this up: the instrument has four strings, just like a violin, but due to the size of the instrument, the soundbox and the length of each string, the instrument has a tone and character that can easily stand on its own – particularly in a room with beautiful acoustics, such as a church. The instrument is capable of playing both deep bass notes and high melodies – and as such, it can often perform solo parts without the accompaniment of other string instruments. There are few things as beautiful as a cello in a church, a concert hall or any other space with good acoustics optimised for acoustic instruments.

The cello can thus easily be booked as the main instrument for reception or a marriage. This can also be an advantage for you if you’re organising a party where there isn’t much space for the music. This applies both to the venue itself – it can be difficult to accommodate more than a single musician – and to the budget, as a solo musician does not ‘take up’ as much of the budget as several musicians do, since a single musician naturally costs less than two or three.

At Limunt, we prioritise great music and a wonderful experience for our customers – and we would therefore always recommend booking, for example, a duo featuring a cello and violin, as this line-up brings far greater dynamism, texture and expression to the sound itself when several musicians play together. Two classical musicians at a party sound more than twice as good as a single musician, as in a string duo, for example, there is both ensemble playing and interaction. Skilled musicians know how to give each other space so that they can shine at different moments in the music. A trio, in turn, offers more texture and expression than a duo. With three instruments, so-called ‘triads’ can be played, which really help to colour the music and its expression. A string quartet is an ensemble comprising four classical musicians (violin, violin, viola and cello). This is our most frequently booked option. For most people, the sound of a quartet is what plays in their ‘inner ear’ when they imagine classical music.

Choose a classical quartet if you want the very best and don’t want to compromise on the music.
